PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE FOR YOUR COMPUTER

 Preventive Maintenance is the process of cleaning your pc and keep it in the state of working healthy means some problem in the pc can cause your computer to be too slow and heating too much which can cause processor to broke or dead. So, to prevent this you must do preventive maintenance of your computer.

The following methods is used to do the preventive maintenance:

1.   Clean temporary files folder

2.   Clean inside the CPU or Desktop

3.   Clean the Recycle Bean

4.   Clean your disk

5.   Delete the files inside your computer which does not use

6.   Use Antivirus to Scan for Virus

7.   Clean Prefetch folder

1.   CLEAN TEMPORARY FILES FOLDER IN YOUR COMPUTER

To clean temporary files in your computer, do the following steps

1.   Open run dialogue box by press Windows Logo key on Your keyboard and R key on your keyboard and run as administrator

For example, Win+R the following dialogue box will appear as shown below:



Type the command shown in the figure above such as  %temp%

Then the following dialogue box will appear as shown below which contain files which you need to delete


Highlight all the files in the temporary folder as shown below and press the delete button on your computer keyboard or after highlight the files right click and select delete option as shown below:

To highlight using Ctrl key and A key



Then after delete your temporary folder will look like the figure shown below


2.   CLEAN THE RECYCLE BEAN

The recycle bean is like dustbin which you all unused material for later delete it. All files in your computer which you delete all go to be temporary store in the recycle bin. If you mistaken delete the files you can find the files in the recycle bin and restore it, I will show you later how to do this.

Now let us see how to clean the Recycle Bin

1.   Go to the desktop as shown and find the recycle bin or open Run dialogue box and type Recycle bin and select Empty Recycle Bin


After that all the files and folders in the bin will be deleted.

RESTORE YOUR FILES IN THE RECYCLE BIN

To restore your files in the recycle bin do the following steps

Open the recycle bin as shown below

After open the recycle bin find the folder or files you need to be restored after mistaken delete and right click the files and click restore as shown below


3.   CLEAN THE PREFETCH FOLDER

To clean the prefetch folder open run dialogue box by using Win logo key and R key on your keyboard (Win+R) and then write prefetch as shown below:


 Then the following dialogue box will appear after you click ok, you need to click continue to allow permission to access the folder as shown below:


Then highlight all the files in the folder and delete it. You do this by right click and then press delete as shown below:


After click delete close the folder. Some item can not be deleted so you can skip them.

4. CLEAN YOUR LOCAL DISK DRIVE

To clean your local disk drive, you can go to my computer in windows 7 and this pc in windows 10 as shown below and click open:


After click open then the following dialogue box will appear as shown below:



Then click Local Disk (C:) and right click and then select properties as shown below

Then the following dialogue box will appear as shown below:


Then click Disk Cleanup as shown in the figure above then the following dialogue box will appear as shown below:


Then after select all the folders and files you want to delete then click clean up system files as shown in the figure above and wait for the process to be completed.

5.   DELETE THE FILES INSIDE YOUR COMPUTER WHICH YOU DOES NOT USE

The files in your computer like music, movies, unuse documents, pictures and programs you can find and delete it. So, to reduce the load of your computer and cause it to be very fast.

6.   SCAN FOR VIRUS IN YOUR COMPUTER

You can scan your computer for virus each week or monthly and update your antivirus to the latest version, for example Kaspersky antivirus, AVG etc.

Some antivirus if not updated can cause computer to be very slow and take long time to open the program.

7.   WINDOWS UPDATE

To keep your computer run smoothly you must update your computer to the latest version of your windows.

To update your windows 10 go to the settings of your computer and find update and security as shown below in the figure:

Then click check for update to check for new update as shown below:

 


8.   CLEAN INSIDE THE CPU OR DESKTOP

To clean inside the CPU or Desktop you need to have blower to blow dust from the desktop. Dust from desktop sometime can cause your computer to be slow and cause overheating of your desktop which can cause processor to be burn. So, you need to clean your computer each month to remove dust and any unwanted materials from your desktop.
